I didn't know about the facebook group til °jark joined up. I'd tried to search for a dA group, but that was before facebook made it so that people could join groups no matter what network they were in.

i've apparently become the go to guy to pick out cameras (i helped out john and andy.) However, I'm gonna be much more helpful when picking out a digital camera, i should be able to help with film, but not as much (this is going into consideration that I think you said you may want to go into photography as your major or something and I know OSU doesn't offer all the digital equivalents of the film classes yet.) As for practicing on my camera, i'll be glad to help you out and teach you the basics of all the manual controls. For actually using my camera thats fine as long as you abide by the you break it you buy it rule.

the composition and framing of the pictures is getting better, but you need to get an actual camera other than your video camera because the image quality is lacking. If you need help finding one, let me know.
